Last month I received a letter from the U. of A.'s School of Library & Information Science asking ELLA to consider giving a donation of $100 to help with costs related to their upcoming "Professional Development Day". They wanted to bring in certain speakers and needed help with the costs. The Executive was quite happy to assist them and Christine dispatched a cheque forthwith. Their keynote speaker will be Dr. Loriene Roy, President of the American Library Association and a professor at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. She will be joined by Dr. Ann Curry, Incoming Director of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta, Laura Morin Edmonton Public Library's Aboriginal Community Development Librarian, Sarah Polkinghorne and Cameron Hoffman, from the University of Alberta and University of Lethbridge, respectively, and Jason Openo, past-president of the Pacific Northwest Library Association and head librarian at Edmonton Public Library's Whitemud Crossing location. The Professional Development Day is scheduled for February 8th, 2008 and I have been invited to attend. I'm looking forward to it! |
