Thanks to Steve Matthews of Stem Legal and Vancouver Law Librarian Blog fame, we have a new resource to find the latest legal titles in the Canadian marketplace.  The LegalPubs.ca website aggregates the RSS feeds from Canadian legal Publishers to give us all a quick list of new titles.

Thanks Steve!

Have you noticed a problem with the search templates in Taxnetpro? Ever since they upgraded the page (September? August?) we have had a problem with getting only a blank page when you click on the Advanced template, under the Research tab.  It will remain blank, except for an icon in the top right called Loading that will simply roll without bringing up the search page.  This may occur with other search templates under the Research tab as well.

Carswell has advised me that this is a bug related to the recent upgrade of Taxnetpro and they are working on the problem but they do not have an estimate of when it will be fixed and it has been going on for some time.

You might want to make your lawyers and/or tech. support people aware this problem exists. And I would be very interested to know if anyone does NOT have this same problem with the Advanced search template.

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) has formed a Women’s Prison sub-committee and is looking for volunteers from the library community. The committee stems from a desire to become involved in Community Development Librarianship. This approach looks at libraries and/or librarians providing access to information to all community members, even those socially excluded and marginalized.
We have established 4 main priorities at this time:
·         Database improvement (Inmagic experts welcome!)
·         Weeding
·         Collection policy development
·         Book drive (probably Spring 2008 with some specific guidelines about what the women need and want in their library)

We also hope to organize another tour of the prison later on in the year.  If you would like more information about this committee or would like to volunteer your time, please contact Kirsten Wurmann at kwurmann@ualberta.ca
