We finally delivered the final shipment of books to the Edmonton Institution for Women a few weeks ago (it had to happen in stages due to the size of the library and not wanting to overwhelm the inmate librarian...)

I want to thank the Edmonton Law Libraries Association for all of its support for the GELA bookdrive, especially the Queen's Printer, Judy-Lynn at the Alberta Court Libraries,  Andrea at Emery Jamieson and Melissa and Josette at Fraser Milner Casgran. I still need to collect some books from some of you - but I must say that the addtions from ELLA members have made the prison library that much better! Thank you.

Extra thanks to Melissa and Josette for their expertise with the Inmagic catalogue - we may snag Melissa again soon to help train the new inmate librarian. This type of support is invaluable.

We still have some clean up to do at the library - but hope to start soon with some literacy programs, regular visits/mentoring with the inmate librarians and more! We have been able to get a practicum student from SLIS to do a project in the prison library starting this winter. Exciting times ahead.

Thanks again - and if you'd like more information about the prison committee and the work we are doing, please contact me directly at kwurmann@ualberta.ca

I just purchased a book that I think is too cool and wanted to share it with y'all.  It's called "An Administrative History of the Government of Alberta 1905 - 2005".  It was published by the Provincial Archives as a Centennial project.   It gives information on name changes, dates of creation and historical relationships between Alberta government departments. It might be well and good to look for info. re the arts under Alberta culture or multiculturalism but what if you didn't know it was called Community Development?  The more time goes by the more valuable this book will become in our reference areas and I think it was a brilliant idea!  I

An order form is available at the Provincial Archives website.  Cost is a paltry $43.00 with shipping.

"Dear Colleagues,

We are conducting a survey to determine the satisfaction levels of
people who work in law libraries.   Our survey will take
approximately 15 minutes to fill out and should give us a clearer
picture of what we like and don't like so much about our jobs. We would greatly appreciate your assistance with our study.

The link to the survey is:

We will be doing some cross-posting, so our apologies if you receive
this e-mail twice -- the survey only needs to be filled out
once.  The statistics are collected anonymously; there's no need to
tell us who you are unless you want to.

The survey will close September 30, 2008.  Results will be presented
at the CALL 2009 conference, and will also appear in Canadian Law Library Review.

Thank you,

Nancy McCormack and Nicole Eva"
