September 25, Ulla de Stricker and Pamela Casey will be in Edmonton presenting an Information Entrepreneurship course.  Follow this link for more information: http://plc.fis.utoronto.ca/coursedescription.asp?courseid=243

Key topics covered:
  • the pros and cons of independent work
  • personality traits that may support entrepreneurship or be a challenge
  • researching the potential market for the intended services
  • financial and legal aspects (price setting, contracts, sole proprietorship vs. incorporation)
  • the logistics of establishing and managing a business (registration, the home office, accounting)
  • techniques for marketing their services (website, networking, etc)
  • managing the client relationship
  • business ethics
Though the target audience is individuals who are considering the possibility of setting up an independent business, this course is a great option for anyone.
Cheers, Shaunna

Just to give you an update on the issue of searchability of the Alberta Bills, post removal of the Bills Source on LNQL, this update was sent from the bills group at the Legislative Assembly of Alberta:

Our historical bills project is well underway.  We are in the process of having paper copies of bills, dating back to 1961, scanned and converted to a PDF that we can then post on our web site.  The paper copies of the bills have now been delivered to the scanning company and we expect they will begin work next week.  As well, work is being done to our web site so that we can  integrate the historical bills.

Cheers, Shaunna
