Despite dying on the order paper twice, the legislation that Tommy Banks spoke of at CALL 2005 in Edmonton has made it through the federal legislative process!  Bill S-207 An Act to repeal legislation that has not come into force within ten years of receiving royal assent was Assented to on June 18, 2008.  It will come into force June 18, 2010.  Congratulations Senator Banks on your persistence and perseverance.

see LegisINFO for the goods on this and other federal legislation.

Cheers,

How did everyone enjoy the film "The Hollywood Librarian: A Look At Librarians Through Film"?  I think overall there was a pretty good turn out.  I enjoyed it...even though it made me cry in parts (good grief!) Perhaps my blood sugar was low but the thought of all the history and knowledge in the National Library of Iraq destroyed so easily and quickly choked me up.  What a disgrace! What a loss!  And the situation with the Salinas library was very disturbing too.  Am I living in a bubble?  Do things like that happen in Canada?  I wasn't aware of the conditions that public libraries operate under.  Or is it U.S. public libraries??  I have to hand it to those librarians though.  I doubt I would stick with a job where I had to have business meetings in my car and use the public washroom in the park next door. YIKES!

Thanks to the CanLII blog for the following info:

"CanLII is proud to announce that decisions issued by the following Securities Commissions are now available:

Some of the databases contain a complete set of the commission’s decisions; others offer access to decisions issued under the Securities Passport System

To facilitate the research, a new thematic category: “securities” has been created in the advanced search form. This allows the users to search only within the securities commission databases."
