People finding is a pain, but there is a resource page to help.  The BC Securities Commission has put together a background research toolkit on their website and it highlights a couple of sources.

In addition, InfoUSA provides a good directory of phone numbers and addresses for Canada. I know that you can access it through Choicepoint and public libraries might also have subscriptions directly (or at least many do here in Canada.)

From the toolkit home page:

The information in this toolkit can be used for a variety of tasks, including hiring new employees in the securities industry, vetting firm management, and conducting “know your client” compliance activities.

[this originated as a response to a question on CALL-L]

Cheers, Shaunna

In case you missed it in the regular news, CBC reports the "UN world digital library goes live online"http://www.cbc.ca/arts/media/story/2009/04/21/world-digital-library.html .  It aims to "...provide a one-stop shop for researchers, teachers and schoolchildren seeking to find items on one topic together in one place [and] ...It brings together cultural heritage that's scattered around the world..." It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with law but it is entirely far too interesting nonetheless.
