2008 Canadian Law Blog Awards Winner

Steve Matthews our Vancouver Law Librarian blog friend and principal of Stem Legal created the ClawBies (Canadian Law Blog awards) to highlight  Canadian Legal Blog content.  The ELLA Blog was recognized in the Law Librarian catagory!

8) Law Librarian Blog Award - 2008 is the year we expand our radar in this category, and note the great blogging being done by the Edmonton Association of Law Libraries.  With a number of contributing members, this blog looks to be evolving into a must read for Canadian law librarians. If it isn’t on your reading list already, be sure to follow in 2009! Runner ups: Call KM Blog, BC Courthouse Library Society What’s New Blog.

Our thanks must go out to Steve, and to all the ELLA members who contribute here as well as everyone who reads us. Congratulations also to all the blogs showcased by the 2008 CLawBies.

Happy 2009, Shaunna

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) has formed a Women’s Prison sub-committee and is looking for volunteers from the library community. The committee stems from a desire to become involved in Community Development Librarianship. This approach looks at libraries and/or librarians providing access to information to all community members, even those socially excluded and marginalized.
We have established 4 main priorities at this time:
·         Database improvement (Inmagic experts welcome!)
·         Weeding
·         Collection policy development
·         Book drive (probably Spring 2008 with some specific guidelines about what the women need and want in their library)

We also hope to organize another tour of the prison later on in the year.  If you would like more information about this committee or would like to volunteer your time, please contact Kirsten Wurmann at kwurmann@ualberta.ca
